Onam

Kerala's harvest festival marking the annual homecoming of the righteous asura king Mahabali, who was sent to the netherworld by Vishnu's Vamana avatara but granted one yearly visit to his people. Celebrated on the Thiruvonam nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Chingam with floral pookkalam, the Onasadya feast, boat races and Pulikali.
