Holasthaka Begin

The start of the eight-day period from Phalguna Shukla Ashtami up to Holika Dahan, treated in much of North India as inauspicious for weddings, housewarmings and other samskaras. Ordinary worship continues, but new auspicious undertakings are deferred until after the Holika bonfire.
